Photonics industry on an upswing, helped by Canadian booth at forum
Ottawa's photonics companies are seeing blue skies ahead for the industry, if the response to this week's Photonics West trade show is any indication. Sixteen Canadian exhibitors represented the country's photonics industry in the first Canadian booth at the forum in San Jose, Calif. from Jan. 23 to Jan. 25, including 10 Ottawa-area companies and organizations. Michael Darch, executive director of the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation's Global Marketing department, which was part of the delegation at the trade show, says the interest levels in the forum seems to have increased since last year's event. "There's been line-ups at 7:30 a.m. for the breakfast meetings and we've had to kick people out!" he laughs. "People are getting solid leads and the positive interest is there." Mr.
