Advanced Medical Optics "neutral weight," target price raised
In a research note published yesterday, the analyst mentions that the acquisition of IntraLase strengthens Advanced Medical Optics total refractive solutions position. Advanced Medical Optics expects the deal, which is valued at approximately $808 million in cash, to dilute its 2007 earnings and be earnings accretive in 2008. The company has reduced its EPS guidance for 2007 by $0.45 to $1.40-$1.55, which implies that its standalone guidance has been reduced by about $0.22, the analyst adds. .

High performance Stem has new electron optics
Hitachi High-Technologies has announced the launch of the HD-2700 ultra-high resolution scanning transmission electron microscope (Stem). This instrument is characterised by new electron optics which now includes a spherical aberration correction system (developed in collaboration with CEOS). By reducing the performance-limiting spherical aberration, the HD-2700 offers significantly improved resolution and analytical sensitivity, enabling atomic level imaging on many specimens. The HD-2700 has applications in materials science, semiconductors and nanotechnology, both in research and development and quality control. High speed, high sensitivity EDX analysis is possible since the HD-2700 can achieve exceptionally high probe current density (ten times greater probe current than other models in the HD-series).

Absolute Fizeau Interferometer Test Optics
The Melles Griot Optics Group, a provider of optical components, multielement lenses and contract-manufactured assemblies, has released additional Fizeau interferometer test optics to complement its Absolute Fizeau λ/40 transmission sphere product line. The company said the addition of Absolute Fizeau λ/50 concave and convex reference spheres allows users to record and store reference wavefronts for subtraction from interferometric test data, substantially improving their interferometer system's absolute accuracy. Also added to the product lineup are Absolute Fizeau λ/50 transmission and reference flats that cost-effectively increase the absolute accuracy of Zygo-style Fizeau surface and wavefront-testing interferometers to λ/50 without the need to store, manipulate or subtract reference wavefronts during the testing process.
